mi corazon
November 15th - Montbau, Barcelona. I work with the most locked away autistic people, the people most of the world never see. Autism is a very small word that currently encompasses a vast number of people – those who I work with need, and will always need, 24/7 care. They are usually too anxious to enter the theatre at first visit, but after some time; days, weeks, months, years, through forming the habit of playing with myself and the actors, fear and anxiety appear to be alleviated and a genuine sharing of thought, feeling, emotion and truth can be experienced together.
Tomorrow we fly to Mexico to share our Tempest with Mexican actors and Mexican autistic children and their families. Never been to Mexico before.
We is Aleix and I. Aleix played Ariel when I first did this production in Spanish in Madrid in 2016 in the early days of Flute Theatre. After that, I did it in Catalan here in Barcelona the following year and it's to Barcelona I have been returning ever since. Now Aleix has a beautiful baby son and Flute Theatre is ten years old. And here we go.
This week I was lucky enough to see Bob Dylan at the Albert Hall. I've been watching him live for over half my life. Desolation Row and When I paint my masterpiece stole my senses.
Musical muscles of mysterious origin. Fast bass lines and slow harmonious chords and all those tumbling words. No fear, full of noises, sounds, sweet airs, opening clouds inside me.
Like a storm that must burst. I'm bringing this to Mexico.
